The first ECALI RUN took place yesterday, 15.01.2017 with unprecedented turnout around the idyllic premises of the Ecali Club. The event was organized by THE ECALI CLUB SPORTS department in collaboration with renowned Marathon runner, Nikos Polias.
The Ecali Club, along with the Hellenic Olympic Winners Association, welcomed runners of all ages at 10 a.m. When the gates opened, adults and children had the opportunity to prepare at the especially created open space and modern facilities of the Club.
At the end of the adult and kid’s marathons, which took place at Rodon Avenue, all the runners received commemorative medals from the 1st ECALI RUN. The tennis field was suitably arranged to host the runners and guests for the awards ceremony and the space was surrounded with promotional sponsors’ corners.
A premium buffet full of delicious drinks, gourmet sandwiches, warm snacks, pasta bar, healthy corner, pastry and fruit corner, energy drinks and warm wine was set near the stage for the guests to enjoy. The adults showed a special fondness for cold beer while children enjoyed the fruit juice.
The forty eight awards given were medals and cups for the winners of the ECALI RUN, in every category depending on the age group and sex. The Board of Directors of ECALI S.A., Mr. Chris Mandas (Municipal Councilor of the Municipal Unity of Ecali), Mrs. Lila Dragona (President of the Municipal Unity of Ecali), along with sponsors’ representatives, Hellenic Olympic Winners and multiple-Marathon winner Nikos Polias, presented the awards to the participants.
Mr. John Georgakakis, CEO of ECALI S.A., representing the Board of Directors, announced that part of the marathon’s earnings would be given to support Greek junior schools of Western Attica through the "act4Greece" programme which provides hot food for the children’s school lunches. Mrs. Nelly Tzakou, General Manager of Retail Banking of the National Bank of Greece, thoroughly analysed the actions of “act4Greece”.
Only last year 134.541 hot lunches were given to 2.808 students from 17 schools. Mrs. Tzakou with delicate sensitivity appealed to the guests to support the cause of providing 244.470 hot meals to 1.405 students from 9 schools of Western Attica for the school year 2016-2017.
Memorable moments from the event were the pictures that the children took with the Hellenic Olympic Winners who once again inspired young and old by reinforcing the Olympic spirit and the joy of sports.
A party followed under the sounds of DJs provided by Mr. Berlis company, BERCO Turn on Entertainment, who sponsored the event.
All the sponsors of the 1st ECALI RUN supported the event with great enthusiasm.
